    1. Why would that happen? :)
      We're such nice people.

    2. That's exactly why. While you guys are civilized, we are barbaric.

    3. Haha, for sure. ;) Meanwhile I'll be the guy sitting in the corner trying to calm everyone down and stop them from destroying the Universe...

    4. I'll trade you positions d2a93bd8! I'd rather be the gal in the background while the other two nations stunt each others growth. It seems like an easy win. ;)

    5. What? No! *Shoves.* Now you get in there and fight!

    6. Now, Now. "Super Evil" country threatens us all. We shouldn't try to force all of the hard work onto the shoulders of one nation. Considering "Super Evil" country is closer to Slevadovia than any other nation I'd think its neighbors would think boarder security is a mutual problem. Nations are stronger when they work together, and it's better to have an ally than a bitter party. Strong bonds are formed between comrades in arms.

    7. We should totally all team up and beat the living shit out of the first nation to strike.

  3. d2a93bd8...etc. suggested we use different terrains. Hills, forests, plains, and mires. I could use pale colors to indicate which terrain is present in a particular square, which would allow for enough contrast between icons and background.

Hills: X2 defensive power, x2 offensive power, city cost 20EP
Forest: x2 defensive power, building a city changes terrain into plains
    Mires: city cost 20EP
    Plains: no different rules

I would of course allow you to reposition your capital.

    What do you think?

    1. I'm not sure yet. I kind of like the simplicity of the current rules.

    2. (Intended to originally post this as a reply to this post.)

I like the idea of using different shades of green: http://i.imgur.com/xHKfvaH.png

If icons aren't visible, it wouldn't hurt to change them.

    3. Also, Elbeyon, I'm not sure about the advantages and disadvantages of environments myself either. IMO it would be better if they were just for immersion, eg. we could have civilizations that build solely in certain environments, or rather than saying your nation is at some random string of numbers and letters, you could say your nation is positioned in the middle of a forest up north, or something. It just adds to the immersion...

    4. I've got no problems with a non-mechanical environment, nothing against that. I'd be all for a more immerse environment. Chances are though unless someone read my nations fluff I'd have to rebuild my nations landscape. I described a good chunk of Northwestern Jotnjordh. Nothing too elaborate but the basic details are there. I wouldn't mind changing the fluff though if that means everyone gets a more detailed landscape.

    5. I've added a height-map to the map page. What do you think?

    6. I personally like the one I made better.

    7. The reason for not showing the difference between forests and plains is that when cities are formed, forests are removed and changed into plains. And forests can occur on flat areas, or on hills. So you'd have to distinguish between forested hills, grassy hills, forested flatlands and grassy flatlands. Wetlands can occur with forests (swamps) and without (mires). And the presence of trees will change during the course of the game. The height will not change.

The map can show the height, and the rest can be assumed. You can assume that most of the continent is covered with trees and dotted with rocks, and that the lowest regions are probably swamps or lakes, and the regions near capitals/ cities are less forested meadows and heaths.

The reason for making it in greyscale is that it'll interfere less with the icons.

    8. Green does not interfere that much it seems. I'll upload a green version too.

  5. Why is it that there are four people yet only three nations? Has someone not posted their application, or does the creator not have a nation?

    1. I don't think the person running the game has a nation. Some might see it as unfair so that's probably why.

  6. Name of Nation: Austria
    Leader: Kaiser Alexander the Fifth
    Capital: Berlin
Currency: Uses gold coins with stamped with a crown and calls them crowns, uses silver pieces stamped with a pair of crossed sword called swords. There are 100 silver pieces to one gold piece, with 10 copper pieces, stamped with a sword on shield called shields, being equal to one silver piece.
Color: Gold ( I don't know the Hex code right now)
    Capital Location: R7
    Race: Nord
Additional Info on Leader: Kaiser Alexander the Fifth oversees a pseudo-constitutional monarchy with military officers possessing land and titles serving in the upper house of Parliament with non military officers with lands and titles plus the common people serving in the lower house of Parliament. The government is "His Imperial Majesty's Government" or H.I.M.G., which controls the nation. The Kaiser hold the power to replace members of the government at his whim as well as appoint new officials. The government functions via ministers, appointed by the Prime Minister with the Kaiser's blessing.

Kaiser Alexander the Fifth is nearly 50 years of age and is an established war hero. He supports limited tariff trade relations, a well supported and trained army, a society in which your accomplishments count more than who your parents are, and a mix of labor and non-labor groups. Kaiser Alexander believes in supporting the state with religion, or that the religions in the nation are to preach support of the state in all ways.

  7. Name of Nation: Zalfir.
Leader(s): The Eternal Twins, Izem Green (male) and Ilena Mantis (female).
    Capital: Zephyras
Currency: Stories, a beautifully played game of any kind may also be accepted as it tells a story of its own. Some coins made from metals are also used, but only for dealing with those who value them (aka non-Zalfirians). Material wealth holds little value for those who live long lives.
    Color: Green, preferably Spring Green.
    Capital Location: I12
    Race: Elves
    Additional Info:

Location and currency: At the end of the First Age the amount of novel stories was running low in the floating city of Zephyras. It was even harder to think of new ways to play their limited store of games. To solve this problem the Eternal Twins decided to let Zephyras settle down onto the central plains of Jotnjordh and seek communion with other nations for they might posses stories they had not yet heard. To obtain those stories they would trade using the heaps of (to them worthless) metal and gemstones found in the ancient vaults. These had been forcefully opened in the faint hope of finding untold riches (literally) but were soon discovered to be filled with junk. Apparently the previous ruler had put just as much store in material wealth as the surface-dwellers.

Rulers: Originally the rulers of the Zalfirians had been decided using an (almost) annual games-tournament and would then rule for a year and a day and only age on the final day. During the final day the tournament to decide the next king would also be held. All of that changed forever after Izem Green and Ilena Mantis joined the fray. They started in opposite brackets and both defeated all of their opponents in the most exquisite manners, all the while playing the most beautiful games in generations. In the final game, which would only end when one player would win two times in a row, this reached a crescendo. Brother and sister both played to their best and it quickly became clear the game would last several days. However as the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months the people became nervous, for neither had needed food nor water. After an entire year had passed the twins had an equal number of victories and had decided to let the final game be the tiebreaker, regardless of the previous string of victories. At the end of the final day the game ended in a tie. Since that day both Ilena and Izem have not aged and in time have become known as the Eternal Twins.

Army: Those who think the Zalfirians easy prey because of their fondness for games and fairytales are in for a nasty surprise as they face the Prismatic Guard. The minds of these warriors have been honed by hundreds of strategy-games and made them masters of reading their opponent. A general tactic of them is to blind or dazzle opponents with their brilliant armor, which reflects light throughout the spectrum, after which they end them with one strike of their hardened glass weaponry. When facing the Prismatic Guard the only truly safe place to be is “not anywhere near the Prismatic Guard”. By night the material of their armor changes in function and reflects no light at all. This makes them impossible to miss by day and impossible to find by night. In addition to this there are rumors of a small but elite group of Prismatic Guards called the Broken Eye whose armaments reflect no light even by day, but these are rather difficult to find as they are invisible while in function.

    1. One thing I forgot to mention at the location part:
The Eternal Twins chose the central plains as this would shorten the distance to other nations, reducing the time it would take for travelers, and their stories, to reach them.

  8. Hey people! I'll be introducing my nation here.
    Nation: Equestria
    Leader: Dash, the Swift
    Capital: Cloudsdale
Currency: Bits. As in, one bit, multiple bits. Bits are golden coins, imprinted with horseshoes.
    Location: N3
    Colour: Cerulean Blue
    Race: Dwarves
Info: Equestrian have been a nation of symbionts as long as anyone can remember. Together with their pegasi, they have lived in peace in the clouds for centuries. By outsiders, the pegasi are seen as mounts, work animals even, but the truth could be no further from this. In fact, neither Equestrian nor pegasus could live without the other. From the day they are born, both races play, live and work together through a symbiotic relationship. Each Equestrian has its own pegasus, and so each pegasus has its own Equestrian citizen. Both are regarded equally withing the Equestrian community, and the pairs formed at or near birth are regarded as inseparable, as mostly they are exactly that. Members of an Equestrian citizen-pegasus pair are known as 'Friends'. This term is regarded as the strongest bond two individuals can have.

However, as there can be only one ruler, one has to leave one's Friend behind to rule the nation. Many years ago, civil unrest caused the internal integrity of the reigning ruler to break down, and so he fled. The nation was in dire need of strong leadership, and Dash took it upon herself to leave her Friend behind to make things right within the nation. She took the throne for herself, and has provided excellent leadership ever since. Nobody has heard of Geoff, her Equestrian Friend, ever since.

Depending mostly on willpower and a strong moral code, Dash has made the nation thrive with prosperity for many years now. Though she had to leave her Friend behind, Dash takes it upon herself and her nation to be as friendly as possible towards all travelers, strangers and foreigners, making for an extremely open civilization. As aristocracy goes however, most high offices in the government are still run by Equestrian/pegasus citizen pairs, leaving little representation for immigrant groups.
